About
Hello, I’m Suzette Smart, a Textile artist, Storyteller and Tutor based on the border of Shropshire and Wales in the UK.
My work is rooted in narrative and memory, drawing on the landscape, wildlife and lived experiences that shape my everyday life.
I use fabric collage, free machine and hand stitching and often include text which might be stitched or printed. I prefer using thrifted and gifted fabrics including linen, lace and fabric scraps in my work embracing reuse as both a creative and an environmentally considerate practice.
I’m passionate about teaching and sharing what I love. I offer workshops, talks and online courses designed to encourage play and storytelling using my signature techniques.
In 2019, my piece, Draw My World in Words, was selected for the inaugural Fine Art Textile Award Gallery at The Festival Of Quilts.
Along with fellow artist, Alison Holt, I am co organiser and curator of the bi annual exhibition called Stitch By Stitch at The Willow Gallery, Oswestry.
