A question of love…

I am not ashamed to say, but I do have quite a few hearts hanging around my home … stitched, felted or recycled old wool jumpers, there does seem quite a few! I have given them to friends on occasion with a special stitched message, though the one that hangs from the hook and eye has to be my favourite. It`s what I see as a question of love

Happy stitching this Valentines …

Embroidered Angel

This embroidered Angel, adorned a box I made last Summer for a christening present. The sides of the box were embellished with raised vermicelli and large flowers. The raised stitchery was achieved by a) loosening the tension on the bobbin, and b) using a hand quilting thread.

For myself, it`s an opportunity to experiment with design and stitchery when making a box or chest. I make new ones when a box workshop is approaching as

one is this month. My aim is to make a chest with a drawer and panels of family history.

The chest below has a medieval theme in which I used freehand machine embroidery, silk paints and layers of voile.

Happy stitching to all in 2012 …

Christmas is coming…

I have never been inspired to stitch a Christmas picture but I have found this in the archives … It wasn`t intended as a Winter scene, but looking at it now, it certainly sends out a chill.

I love the warm glow from two of the doors, enticing you in … perhaps for a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie!

These boxes though, were definitely created with the Festive season in mind. The holly, angels and baubles are all stitched on water soluble. Stitched or covered with tartan, each box folds in creating a pyramid shape, perfect to put a special message or present inside…

Stitch and be merry…

Auntie Jean, she`d tell your fortune for a cup of Darjeeling…

Cups and saucers … what stories can be told and what hearts can be healed over a nice cup of tea.

It began with Auntie Jean, she could see your future in the tea leaves. Then one day, she told Loretta, “you”ll be looking over a new gate one day soon.” Past, present and future all in one cup of Darjeeling!

Ideas just seem to flow from these cups … I`ve got a couple of new shapes to try out aswell, so with a clink of china let`s see what I can come up with!

Stitch, create and be happy!
