An embroidered tale or two

It’s been a busy few weeks making with a couple of lovely visits to share stitching ideas, inspiration and tales. Last week took me to Trinity Quilters in Sutton Coldfield and this week I visited Frodsham Patchwork Group. A big thank you to both who made me hugely welcome x

As for the making, I’ve been busy creating amongst other works these small mixed media landscapes each with it’s own bird, tree and stitched tale to call it’s own. They can be found in exhibition at The Willow Gallery, Oswestry, until the New Year. http://www.willowgalleryoswestry.org  (27.5 x 29 cm framed / middle of first row is sold)

Following on from these smaller collages, I couldn’t resist stitching a few more trees! With some familiar characters added including a Great Tit, a fox or two and a funny little animal, there are tales aplenty. The backgrounds are mostly vintage money bags which are beautiful to stitch in to and inspired the night time scenes. These pieces will be back from framing this week with “out under a clear sky” off to his new home.

Signing off with a happy stitching to All,

Suzette x

Exhibition at Oriel Ynys Mon

Last Saturday saw a busy and exciting opening to The Birds Of Wales Exhibition at Oriel Ynys Mon, Anglesey. After having a sneak peek earlier on in the week when I was delivering my work, I couldn’t wait to get back! The show is beautifully brought together with work from artists and makers from across Wales and the borders, all depicting the ‘Birds of Wales’ in their own unique way.

You can join me for a workshop at Oriel Mon on Saturday, 28th October. Stitch your own piece of work using free machine embroidery and fabric collage. For booking and enquiries please contact The Birds of Wales Group TEL 01407 720962

Stitching news

These pieces along with others will be in exhibition later next year. With work pinned and hung around me, the ideas and stories are easy to develop. A little observation at the bird table helps too.

As for this forthcoming weekend, I’m looking forward to stocking up at the Knitting and Stitching Show @ Harrogate. A new thread or piece of fabric can add something new and unexpected.

I’m also excited to see Anne Kelly’s Gallery where I will find this piece of work. A stitched tale of two lovebirds.

The Qube Open

These stitched birds are part of a piece shortlisted for this years Open Competition at the Qube, Oswestry. The exhibition runs from 11th September to 1st November.

The theme Journey is reflected in the piece through the suggested movement of the birds, text and in its transient nature. Most of the birds are not fixed so will go on to be part of their own narratives. There are similarities but each one is an individual.

Birds, postcards and letters …

I tried working this piece into a hanging but the theme, journey, and the ideas I am using to represent this, leaned more easily towards a three-dimensional format. There will be little snippets of narrative to draw you in, embroidered postcards and birds. It`s definitely a work in progress!

Birds, postcards and letters ...

Another piece I`m closer to finishing has poison bottles for it`s inspiration! The very beginning of this embroidery can be seen a few blogs back. I shall let you know when they are out and about and on show.
